Frequently asked questions

What is Clear Counts?

Clear Counts is a live foot-traffic measurement service for retail stores, thrift stores, restaurants, multi-location businesses, government and public facilities, healthcare clinics, churches and venues, and offices. It counts people coming in and out using your existing security cameras and lines that traffic up with your sales, weather and hours so you can see what actually drives revenue.

Do I need new cameras?

No. Clear Counts works with your store's existing security cameras. Dahua and UniFi cameras have been tested. A small edge computer is installed on site to run the counting.

How accurate is it?

Clear Counts is designed to match commercial counters (95%+ daily totals) with on-site calibration. An optional overnight re-check refines daily totals.

Does Clear Counts use facial recognition?

No. There is no facial recognition and no stored images. Video is processed on a small computer inside your store and never leaves the building. Only anonymous counts are sent to the cloud. The system was designed with the Texas biometric privacy law (CUBI) in mind.

Can it connect to my sales data?

Yes. Clear Counts integrates with your POS and lines up hourly traffic against hourly sales to show conversion rate and sales per visitor.

What else can it count?

Besides people entering and leaving, Clear Counts can count drive-through or donation-lane vehicles with wait times, and measure dwell time and occupancy.

What does the dashboard show?

A live "inside now" count, hourly and daily traffic, multi-store views, an hourly weather overlay, a counting-line view for each camera, and auto-refresh. You can give team members their own viewer logins.

What happens if a camera or device goes offline?

You get a downtime alert by email. SMS alerts are coming soon.

Who is Clear Counts for?

The uses are vast across many industries and government: retail and thrift stores, restaurants and drive-throughs, multi-location brands, government and public facilities (libraries, city buildings, parks and recreation, events), healthcare and clinics, churches and venues, and offices and coworking spaces. Anywhere people come and go, Clear Counts can measure it privately.

Can government agencies and public facilities use Clear Counts?

Yes. Libraries, city buildings, parks and recreation centers and public events can measure visitors and occupancy to plan staffing, hours and programs and to report usage. Counts are anonymous, with no facial recognition and no stored images.
